Sunday Edition, vol. 9
Book lover favorites, new kitten kit, and my favorite sheet masks.
The Sunday Edition is a weekly-ish column of 10 things I’m enjoying and inspired by.
These past two weeks passed by in a blur of kitten fur and getting ready for the LA Times Festival of Books! The latest update is we’ve named our new kitten Pearl. I’m partial to a name that fits both a little kid and an old lady, and I love mermaids, so Pearl is the perfect name for this mermaid’s cat.
The LA Times Festival of Books, aka Bookchella, was a wonderful success and distraction from the overwhelm of life things lately. Thank you so much to everyone who came out to see me and support my work at my first booth. I love book readers, being a lifelong bookworm myself, and it is just the loveliest crowd. I can’t wait to see you all next year.
Now on to my ten favorite things from this week, including Bookchella finds.
Book Lover Tote
Bookchella was so busy I didn’t get a chance to leave my booth and shop, so I shopped the cuties who stopped by my booth by asking where they got their cute things. One of the things I definitely ordered online afterwards was this Book Lover tote from Bookish Atelier.New Favorite Journal
To treat myself for sticking to morning pages this year, I got this new pretty journal that says "It’s Going Swell, Absolutely No Problems Whatsoever” on the cover. The kind of dark irony I appreciate this year.Hyperfixation snack
Ever since I spotted this dates + sharp cheddar combo on Instagram (@olivianoceda), I was hooked. I personally like using Trader Joe’s Unexpected Cheddar.Practical Magic 2
The first official trailer dropped for Practical Magic 2 and I couldn’t be more excited. As a big fan of the original, I’m over the moon that my favorite actor/crush Lee Pace is in this one – it might just surpass the original as my favorite for that alone. This fall is going to be magical.Current Reads
Lately I’m in the mood for very light hearted reads, so I’m currently reading Book Lovers by Emily Henry. I just finished Lauren Graham’s Talking As Fast As I Can which, while not a dishy celebrity memoir, reads basically like if Lorelei Gilmore herself wrote it.Flowers
Big on creating grocery store bouquets right now. This week’s is a mix of hydrangea, pink carnations, hyacinths, and garden roses.
Impressionism
I recently took a friend to the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, which has a great Impressionist collection. I’ve fallen in love all over with Degas and discovered many of his pieces were gouache with pastel! So I went to Blick’s and got this starter set of soft pastels to play with.Kitten time
We’ve been doing a lot of supervised time integrating our new kitten Pearl into our family with Duchess and Bettie. Pearl is absolutely kitten chaos, with boundless energy and a fearless curiosity. A few new pet things I added as our family’s grown are these pretty raised heart shaped bowls and this paw shaped spatula for wet kitten food.
Sheet Masks
My face has been extra dry lately, so I’ve been using hydrating sheet masks (this hydrating one and this calming one from Mediheal are my favorites) almost every night. It makes such a difference in calming down my skin.Mei Mei the Bunny
Love this new children’s book by one of my favorite musicians, Laufey (have you seen her Madwoman music video is an inspirational VIBE). Featuring beautiful illustrations by the brilliant Lauren O’Hara.

Pearl is a gem!
Pearl is adorable and great name. I love Lee Pace- did you also fall for him in Pushing Daisies?? Loved that show and think it's a shame there was only 1 season.
